Accept card payments from your customers
To let your customers pay invoices by card, you connect your own Stripe account to NexaVella. This guide shows what to prepare and what happens at each step. It takes a few minutes if you have everything ready.
Before you start
- An email address you can open (Stripe sends you a verification code).
- Your legal name, date of birth and home or business address.
- Your phone number.
- The ID details required in your country, such as a national ID number, a tax number or the last 4 digits of a social security number.
- Your business type (individual / sole proprietor, or company) and, for a company, its registration details.
- A bank account for payouts. The account holder name must match the name on your Stripe account.
- A public business name and a short statement descriptor: this is what your customers see on their card statement.
- A business website or social media page, if you have one (optional).
The steps, exactly as they happen
Press Connect with Stripe
In NexaVella, go to Settings, then Payments, open the tab "Get paid by your customers" and press "Connect with Stripe".
Enter your email on Stripe's page
If you already have a Stripe account, sign in. If you do not, Stripe sends you a verification code and asks you to create a password.
Fill in Stripe's business form
Stripe asks for your country, business type, personal and business details, ID, bank account and statement name. The exact fields depend on your country, and Stripe may change them over time.
Stripe sends you back to NexaVella
If NexaVella says card payments are still off, press "Refresh status".
Finish anything Stripe still needs
If Stripe needs more documents, it tells you in your Stripe dashboard. Complete them, then press "Refresh status" again in NexaVella.
Take a test
Create a small invoice and pay it by card. You can refund it afterwards from your Stripe dashboard if you like.
What Stripe's permission screen means
On Stripe's next screen you will see that NexaVella “will be able to see” your account data and “take other actions for you”. This is Stripe's standard wording for every app connected this way, and it cannot be narrowed. Here is what NexaVella actually does with the connection:
- It creates card payments on your own Stripe account, for your invoices.
- It checks that your account can accept card payments (the status shown in NexaVella).
- It receives notices from Stripe (a payment succeeded, a refund, an account update, or you disconnecting) and notes them on the matching invoices. A payment is only recorded on an invoice if NexaVella created that payment itself.
NexaVella does not read your balance, your payouts or your list of customers, and it never sees card numbers: they are typed into Stripe's secure form. NexaVella does not keep an access token for your Stripe account, only its account number. You can disconnect at any time with "Disconnect" in NexaVella (Settings, then Payments) or in your Stripe dashboard under Settings.
Good to know
- Stripe can take from a few minutes to a few days to enable payments on a new account.
- The money goes straight to your Stripe account and then to your bank. NexaVella never holds your funds or your customers' card data: card details are typed into Stripe's secure form.
- You handle refunds and disputes in your Stripe dashboard. A refund you make there is noted on the invoice automatically.
- Fees are set by Stripe and depend on your country. NexaVella adds no fee on these payments. Stripe pricing
- Card payments are currently available for businesses invoicing in US dollars; elsewhere, record payments in cash or other methods in your own currency. Stripe is also not available in every country, so check the official list of supported countries: stripe.com/global
- If card payments are not available for your business (your currency is not US dollars, or Stripe is not available where you are), you can still get paid without cards: list your own bank, mobile money (MTN MoMo, Orange Money), Zelle, Cash App or PayPal details, and record those payments on your invoices.
